Python is an easy to learn, powerful programming language. It has efficient high-level data structures and a simple but effective approach to objectoriented programming.
• Python elegant syntax and dynamic typing, together with its interpreted nature, make it an ideal language for scripting and rapid application development in many areas on most platforms.
• Python is a high-level, interpreted, interactive and object-oriented scripting language.
• Python is designed to be highly readable. It uses English keywords frequently where as other languages use punctuation, and it has fewer syntactical constructions than other languages.

History

• Python was conceived in the late 1980s by Guido van Rossum at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in the Netherlands as a successor to ABC programming language, which was inspired by SETL, capable of exception handling and interfacing with the Amoeba operating system. Its implementation began in December 1989.
• Python 2.0 was released on 16 October 2000, with many major new features, including a cycle-detecting garbage collector and support for Unicode.
• Python 3.0 was released on 3 December 2008. It was a major revision of the language that is not completely backward-compatible.
